1. Public Record
Fort Itaipu, São Paulo coast, night of 4 November 1957. Two sentries on a wall. A light comes in off the Atlantic, low and bright enough that they cannot look at it. Heat on the skin. In the later telling both men are burned. One is worse. The garrison wakes. Officers take statements. Brazilian papers run it. U.S. writers pick it up as a sentinel case: not a farmer, not a pilot, a wall with a duty roster.
Medical detail varies with the retelling. Official Brazilian paper is thinner than the magazine stack. 1957 is already a saucer year. Itaipu is the night that gave the year a burn. No object is logged on the sand. The fort is a fort. The sentries are the spine.
A wall. Two men who were not supposed to leave it. A light that would not stay offshore.
2. Date of Incident
4 November 1957, night.
3. Location
Fort Itaipu, São Paulo state coast. Approximate 23°59 S 046°24 W.
4. Official Narrative
Garrison statements as reported in the press. Official narrative is not a public identification. Medical records are not in a folder this page can cite whole.
5. Witness Layer
Two sentries. Officers who took the night. Brazilian press. Later U.S. compilers.
6. Recovery Logistics
Statements and press. No object. Medical claims without a public chart.
7. Assessment
A sentry is a good witness until the magazine inflates the burn. Keep both ideas. Men on a wall saw a light that hurt. That can be true in a smaller way than the later pages want. 1957 will decorate any garrison story. The roster still matters more than the decoration.
This folder files Itaipu as a sentinel night with a heat claim attached. Do not write a craft from a burn you cannot chart. Do not write a flare from two men who were posted to look at the sea and then could not.
8. Materials & Remains
Press and later case notes. No hardware. No public medical file.
9. Key Personnel
Two Itaipu sentries : The wall.
Garrison officers : The statements.
10. Aftermath
Itaipu becomes a staple of the physical-effect lists. The fort's later life is its own. The burn stays a paragraph without a ward chart.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: 4 Nov 1957. Wall. Heat claimed. No object.
Confidence: High that a garrison night in November 1957 was reported with two sentries and a bright low light. Low that the burns are charted. Low that the object is typed.
Filing note
A São Paulo wall at night, two men on a roster, a light off the Atlantic they could not stare down, heat in the later telling, papers that needed a sentinel, no chart this page can hold.
They were not supposed to leave the wall. The light came to the wall instead.
