1. Public Record

Walesville, New York, 2 July 1964. Two Air Force jets are up from Suffolk County because something in the dark has already been called in. One of them gets into trouble. The aircraft comes down in a way that starts a fire on the ground. People in a house at Walesville die in that fire. This is not a clean intercept story. This is a military night that left a kitchen uninhabitable.

UFO talk attaches to the scramble. Crash talk attaches to the house. Both can be true in the same hour without either being proven. What is not arguable is the ground: an aircraft down, a fire, civilians who were not in the cockpit. The cheap close is mechanical failure during a chase. The expensive remainder is whatever they were chasing.

1964 already has Socorro in April. Walesville is July and worse, because the wreck here is ours. Nobody needs a saucer for a jet to fall. They only need a jet and a bad minute. The call that put them up is the part that will not leave the file.

They were up after a light. Then we had a fire on the ground.

How the town kept the sequence

Sequence is not proof of cause. It is still the order the night actually happened in. A light, a scramble, a jet, a house. That order is why Walesville is not just another crash card.

2. Date of Incident

2 July 1964, night, Walesville area near Utica, New York, jets out of Suffolk County AFB weather.

3. Location

Walesville, Oneida County, New York. Approximate 43°07 N 075°19 W.

4. Official Narrative

Air Force crash. Official narrative can live as mechanical failure / emergency without granting the target of the chase. Civilian deaths on the ground are in the local paper whether or not a craft is typed. No public recovery of a second object.

5. Witness Layer

Air crews as later listed. Walesville residents. Local fire and press. Compilers who weld the scramble to every northeastern light that summer.

The house went. That is what we had in the morning.

Ground talk after the fire

Morning is the honest tense. Night can be lights. Morning is timber, hose, and a family that is not coming back to that kitchen. Any file that skips the house to keep the saucer is doing the night a violence.

Suffolk County sending jets inland is already a decision. Decisions have paper. The paper on the chase target is thinner than the paper on the wreck. That imbalance is the file, not a scandal by itself.

6. Recovery Logistics

Air Force wreckage. Fire scene. No second object logged next to the house.

7. Assessment

Start with the dead on the ground. If this page exists only to decorate a scramble, it should not exist. The chase may have been a light that deserved a jet. It may have been a light that did not. Either way a house burned. That cost is why the cheap close (failure in flight) has to be said first and without romance.

What remains is the call that launched them. If that call was ordinary traffic, the night is a tragedy with no remainder. If it was not, Walesville is one of the few cards where the sky and a kitchen share a date. This folder will not pretend those are the same kind of proof.

8. Materials & Remains

Jet wreckage. Fire record. Press. No second craft beside the house.

9. Key Personnel

Air crews out of Suffolk County : The scramble.

Walesville household : The ground.

10. Aftermath

Local memory keeps the fire. UFO lists keep the chase. The two memories do not always sit in the same paragraph. This page puts the house in first so the chase has to walk past it.

11. Current Archive Status

Status: Jet down. House gone.

Confidence: High that a USAF jet came down on 2 July 1964 and that a Walesville house burned with civilian dead. Low that the chase target is typed. The kitchen is the fact that will not decorate.

Filing note

A July night over New York, two jets, a light someone thought was worth the fuel, a house that did not care what they were chasing.

The morning had hose water and timber. That is the only recovery that mattered in Walesville.
