STEPHENVILLE
8 January 2008. Highway 67 lights. Air Force denies fighters, then admits ten F-16s.

1. Public Record
Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. 8 January 2008, after sunset and not yet dark. People on and off Highway 67 report lights in a horizontal arc, then in vertical lines. Pilot Steve Allen puts the span at about a mile by a half mile and the speed at a number no civil traffic owns. Constable Lee Roy Gaitan is among the later named. Forty-plus statements accumulate. Some also see F-16s and afterburners. The field sits against the Brownwood Military Operating Area.
Air Force first says no fighters were up. Then it corrects: ten F-16s in the MOA from about 18:17 to 18:58, 7,000 to 34,000 feet. Angelia Joiner writes it locally. MUFON later pulls FAA radar. Some analysts walk an unknown toward Crawford and Prairie Chapel Ranch. Some analysts walk only fighters and flares through a training block. The correction is the government sentence this page keeps. The mile of silent light is the civilian sentence.
A highway. A denial. A correction. No airframe on a county road.
Spanned about a mile long and a half mile wide.
2. Date of Incident
8 January 2008, early evening. Air Force correction in the days after. Radar requests later.
3. Location
Stephenville / Dublin area, Texas. Approximate 32°13 N 098°12 W.
4. Official Narrative
First: no military aircraft. Then: ten F-16s in the MOA. Official narrative stops at the training flight. It does not grant an unknown a mile wide.
5. Witness Layer
Steve Allen. Lee Roy Gaitan. Other town voices. Joiner. F-16 crews as a number, not as interviews in this folder. MUFON radar readers.
6. Recovery Logistics
Statements. A corrected release. Radar pulled later. No wreckage.
7. Assessment
A highway-and-correction file. Keep the first denial beside the ten-ship admission. That order is the official story. Allen's mile is a civilian estimate and should stay an estimate. Crawford is geography, not a recovered target. Do not write flares as finished for every silent witness. Do not write a presidential intercept because a ranch is on the same map.
8. Materials & Remains
Local press. Air Force correction. FAA radar as later analysed. No primary film this archive treats as decisive.
9. Key Personnel
Steve Allen : The span.
Lee Roy Gaitan : Named official witness.
Angelia Joiner : Local paper.
Air Force public affairs : Denial, then ten F-16s.
10. Aftermath
Stephenville becomes a modern multi-witness slide. The MOA is still a MOA. The correction is still more useful than the first sentence.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: 8 Jan 2008. Forty-plus voices. Ten F-16s admitted after a denial. No wreckage.
Confidence: High that many civilians reported unusual lights and that the Air Force first denied, then admitted, fighters in the MOA that hour. Low that a mile-wide object is demonstrated. Low that Crawford was a destination written on a scope.
Filing note
A January highway at dusk, a pilot's mile, a constable, a training block next door, a public affairs no, a public affairs ten, radar fought over later, nothing on the verge for a wrecker to tow.
First no fighters. Then ten. The object may be argued forever. That sequence is not an argument. It is the record.
