1. Public Record
Aztec, New Mexico, March 1948 in the recovery story. A disc on a mesa, small bodies, a quiet take to the same family of rooms that already hold Roswell. The tale travels through Variety's Frank Scully, through Silas Newton and Leo Gebauer, through later books that want another New Mexico crash to sit beside July 1947. Newton is a confidence man. Oil-finding gadgets and saucer lectures live in the same suitcase. Aztec's town name is innocent. The paper hung on it is not.
Later researchers try to rehabilitate a crash with new witnesses and a new mesa. Sceptics treat the whole stack as Scully's con wearing a county. This folder already filed Coyame as a document that wanted to be a log. Aztec is a lecture circuit that wanted to be a recovery. No ministry has stood the 1948 take up as its own.
A mesa. A con man's suitcase. A town that has to live with the title.
2. Date of Incident
Alleged March 1948. Scully publication 1950. Rehabilitation attempts decades later.
3. Location
Near Aztec, New Mexico, in the story. Approximate 36°49 N 107°58 W.
4. Official Narrative
No official recovery. Official narrative is absence. FBI paper on Newton is about fraud, not about a disc.
5. Witness Layer
Scully as printer. Newton and Gebauer as sources. Later local voices added in rehabilitation books. No named recovery crew this folder will treat as sworn.
6. Recovery Logistics
Books and lectures. No public disc. No public bodies. FBI interest in Newton as a salesman.
7. Assessment
Treat Aztec like Coyame with a better publicist. A county name, a precise month, small bodies, a road to a hangar that never appears on a docket. Newton's other business is not a side note. It is the weather the story grew in. Later witnesses can be sincere and still be standing on Scully's floor.
This folder files Aztec as an unverified recovery narrative with a con in the foundation. Keep the town off the hook. Keep Newton on it. Do not use this page to prop Roswell, and do not use Roswell to baptise this mesa.
8. Materials & Remains
Scully. Later rehabilitation books. FBI fraud context. No hardware.
9. Key Personnel
Silas Newton / Leo Gebauer : The suitcase.
Frank Scully : The printer.
10. Aftermath
Aztec gets a conference circuit. The mesa gets tourists. The disc stays a paragraph with a criminal record in the next drawer.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: 1948 story. Con in the foundation. No tray.
Confidence: High that Scully printed a recovery and that Newton had a fraud record. Low that a disc was taken near Aztec. Low that later local voices undo the suitcase.
Filing note
A New Mexico town, a March that lives in lectures, a writer who needed a crash, two men with oil gadgets in the same bag, a mesa that never produced a docket, later books that tried to wash the bag.
Oil-finding gadgets and saucer lectures in the same suitcase. That pairing is the case.
