1. Public Record
Emela-ntouka, "killer of elephants," of the Congo basin and Likouala talk. A horned heavy animal that is not a rhino in the descriptions, said to gut elephant and buffalo, to live in swamps and wallows. Twentieth-century missionaries and later cryptozoologists collect drawings from people who have not produced a hide. J. Mack and others put the name in the same folders as mokele-mbembe. The mouths that use both words do not treat them as the same animal: one is a river-neck, one is a horned killer on the mud.
No type specimen. No horn in a museum tray tagged this name. Trench and wallow claims remain talk. Western drawings tend to grow a ceratopsian frill the local talk did not require. That frill is a collector's gift and should be labelled as such.
A swamp. A horn. No skin on a rack.
Killer of elephants.
2. Date of Incident
Folk talk recorded across the twentieth century. No single hunt dated as success.
3. Location
Likouala and neighbouring Congo basin. Approximate 01°00 N 017°30 E.
4. Official Narrative
No national park lists it as fauna. Official narrative is uncollected large-animal report.
5. Witness Layer
Local hunters as reported. Missionaries. Later interviewers who brought their own dinosaurs.
6. Recovery Logistics
Drawings. No horn in a museum tray that is tagged this name.
7. Assessment
A swamp file. Keep the two-word name. Keep the distinction from mokele-mbembe. Do not write a surviving ceratopsian. Do not write every Congo horn as this one. The frill on western plates is the tell that the pencil arrived after the story.
8. Materials & Remains
Interview notes. Drawings. No specimen.
9. Key Personnel
Likouala speakers : The name.
Later collectors : The drawings.
10. Aftermath
The name stays in expedition proposals. The swamp does not send a crate.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: Congo swamp talk. Horned killer. No specimen.
Confidence: High that the name and the elephant-killing claim exist in local and collected talk. Low that a new large mammal is demonstrated. Low that any drawing is a field sketch from a kill.
Filing note
A basin that already has elephants, a word that means their killer, a horn that is not a rhino's in the descriptions, drawings made after the telling, a crate that never left the swamp.
Not a rhino in the descriptions. That refusal is the only zoological sentence in the file.
