1. Public Record
Hudson Valley, New York, late 1982 into 1984 and after. The object people remember is a dark V or boomerang, lights along the edge, low enough that drivers stop on the Taconic and on back roads in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess. Some nights it is huge and silent. Some nights it is a string that looks, to a sceptic, like ultralights flying formation. Police take calls in stacks. Stormville, Brewster, Yorktown and the river towns become the map. J. Allen Hynek, late in life, sits with witnesses and does not laugh.
Phil Imbrogno and Hynek put the valley into a book. FAA and Guard voices sometimes appear and do not close it. A later official-adjacent line is a club of pilots in formation doing something they should not. That close needs many men to keep a secret over many nights and still explains some of the strings. It does not sit easily on the nights the thing filled a windshield and made no sound a Piper makes.
A valley of commuters. A V over the Taconic. A book that outlived Hynek.
Low enough that drivers stop on the Taconic and on back roads.
2. Date of Incident
Principal cluster 1983-1984, with 1982 openers and later returns.
3. Location
Hudson Valley counties north of New York City. Approximate 41°20 N 073°45 W.
4. Official Narrative
No federal identification that holds. Ultralight formation is the close sceptics prefer. Police logs exist as calls, not as a type.
5. Witness Layer
Drivers and families. Local police. Imbrogno's interview stack. Hynek in his last years.
A dark V or boomerang, lights along the edge, huge and silent.
Hynek, late in life, sits with witnesses and does not laugh.
6. Recovery Logistics
Statements and a book. No airframe on a valley lawn. No club roster that this folder can treat as a confession.
7. Assessment
A formation of ultralights can draw a V. It has to do it often, low, over a commuter road, without a single pilot breaking ranks into the papers. That is a lot to ask. A single craft of that span is a lot to ask too. The valley produced both kinds of night and the literature mashed them.
This folder takes the windshield nights first. Police stacks second. The club theory third, as a close that may eat some strings and not the silent ones. Hynek not laughing is not a type. It is a man who had already burned himself on methane and was not going to do it again on the Taconic.
8. Materials & Remains
Witness paper. Hynek / Imbrogno book. Police call volume. No hardware.
9. Key Personnel
Hudson Valley drivers and police : The nights.
Philip Imbrogno / J. Allen Hynek : The book.
10. Aftermath
The boomerang becomes the East Coast triangle before triangles were a brand. The Taconic still carries commuters. The club, if it existed, never stood for a portrait.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: 1983-84. Valley V. Police stacks. No airframe.
Confidence: High that many people in those counties reported a large low V. Low that ultralights eat every night. Low that a single craft is typed.
Filing note
A commuter valley, a V over the Taconic, police phones that would not stay quiet, a late Hynek who would not say methane this time, a club of pilots that may explain a string and not a windshield.
Drivers stopped. That is how you know the thing was not only a story in a book.
