1. Public Record

2 November 1971, evening. A farm near Delphos, Kansas. Sixteen-year-old Ronald Johnson was tending sheep with a dog when a glowing object, mushroom or helmet-shaped, hovered a few feet off the ground and then was gone. Where it had been: a ring in the soil, eight to ten feet across, glowing at first, then white and dry. His parents saw the ring still shining. Snow later melted around it and not on it. Water poured on the dirt beaded and sat.

Sheriff and then the usual investigators took samples. The soil stayed hydrophobic for months. Analyses argued about fungal mats and about something that had baked the ground. The sheep had been there. The dog had been there.

The ground was glowing.

2. Date of Incident

2 November 1971. Samples through the winter. The ring remained visible into the next season.

3. Location

Johnson farm, near Delphos, Ottawa County, Kansas. Approximate 39°16 N 097°40 W. Sheep pen and pasture.

4. Official Narrative

Local sheriff: unusual ground, no crime. No USAF close that retired the dirt. Official narrative is a farm ring and a boy.

5. Witness Layer

Ronald, then the parents on the still-bright ring. The dog’s behaviour is in the early notes. Neighbours who came for the stain. Lab men who could not agree whether they were holding fungus or baked earth.

The sheep were still in the pen. They had not run.

Family note on the first minutes

6. Recovery Logistics

Jars of dirt. Photographs of a white ring. No object. The farm kept being a farm.

7. Assessment

The American soil-trace file that is not Trans-en-Provence and should not be filed as a copy. A boy, sheep, a ring that hated water. Fungus is a live reading. So is heat. Neither has produced the mushroom that made the first glow. Keep the beading water. It is the experiment anyone could repeat on that patch.

8. Materials & Remains

Soil samples. Ring photographs.

9. Key Personnel

Ronald Johnson : Sixteen. The first look.

Mr and Mrs Johnson : The glowing ring after.

Ottawa County Sheriff : First official eyes.

10. Aftermath

Delphos became a sentence in trace catalogues. The Johnsons did not go on a circuit. The dirt slowly forgot to bead.

11. Current Archive Status

Status: Farm landing-trace, Delphos, 2 November 1971. Hydrophobic ring documented.

Confidence: High that a ring formed on that farm that night and that water beaded on the soil afterward. High that the family reported a glowing object first. Low that a single lab cause has closed the chemistry. Low that a craft was recovered in Ottawa County.

Filing note

A boy and a dog and sheep, a glow that left an eight-foot ring, parents who saw the ground still shining, water that would not sink. Sheriff, jars, arguments about fungus.

The sheep did not run. Animals that stay put are not a theory. They are a fact on a Kansas evening. That small refusal to panic makes the beading water colder than any later catalogue of traces.
