1. Public Record

Château des Noyers, Calvados. The English trade calls it Calvados Castle. In 1867 it comes to Monsieur and Madame de X. Night noises come and go. On 12 October 1875 they return and do not go. The house then holds the couple, a son, the Abbé who tutors him, and four servants. Furniture moves. Blows shake the building. Something takes the stairs at a speed the cook will not call human. Stifled cries. A woman sobbing in daylight as well as dark. Words heard as demons or the damned.

The Abbé locks his room and comes back to an open window and his things on the floor. Célina Desbissons, the cook, keeps a diary: 30 December 1875, three slow blows on the green room door, eight dull ones above, a walk in the second-floor corridor that is neither man nor animal. In January 1876 they try an exorcism. The priest's chair shakes. A lull. The family sell in 1877. In 1984 a fire takes the house and leaves the green room.

A cook's diary. A chair that would not hold still. A room the fire would not take.

These steps have nothing of the human step. No animal either could climb like that.

2. Date of Incident

Principal cluster 12 October 1875 into 1876. Sale 1877. Fire 1984.

3. Location

Calvados, Normandy. Approximate 49°10 N 000°20 W.

4. Official Narrative

A private house, later a ruin after fire. Official narrative is not an inquest. Flammarion and Dariex collected statements. The prefecture did not make it a crime.

5. Witness Layer

M. and Mme. de X. The son. The Abbé, who later wrote that no man could have done what he heard. Célina the cook. Later owners including a Decaen spoken of as an occultist.

I can testify that the things related cannot be the work of a man. The blows could be heard at a distance of 500 yards.

The Abbé, later a parish priest

Everything burns except the green room, the most haunted.

On the 1984 fire

6. Recovery Logistics

Diary pages. Collected statements. A house that burned around one room. No charged person.

7. Assessment

The cook's hours are the spine. Not a magazine summary. Three blows, eight blows, a walk that she will not give to a dog. The Abbé locking a door and finding a window is the other spine. Twenty years of English retelling turned a Norman house into a brand. The brand is not the diary.

The fire leaving the green room is a gift to anyone who wants a moral. It is also a fact that needs a fire officer, not a sermon. This folder keeps the 1875 winter and lets 1984 sit beside it without pretending they explain each other.

8. Materials & Remains

Cook's diary as quoted. Abbé's letter. Burned house. Green room standing in the telling.

9. Key Personnel

Célina Desbissons : The hours.

The Abbé : The locked room.

M. and Mme. de X. : The family who left.

10. Aftermath

The name Calvados Castle travels better than Château des Noyers. The green room outlives the rest in the story whether or not the masonry agrees.

11. Current Archive Status

Status: Oct 1875. Cook's diary. Green room. Fire 1984.

Confidence: High that a Norman household recorded months of blows and movement in 1875-76. Low that the 1984 fire is part of the same cause. Low that a named spirit is identified.

Filing note

A replacement castle, an October that would not quiet, a tutor who locked a door, a cook who wrote the hours instead of screaming them, a chair that shook under a priest, a fire a century later that left one room.

These steps have nothing of the human step. She wrote it at 00:40 and went back to work in the morning.
