1. Public Record
Blickling Hall, Norfolk. Red brick, a long gallery, a library that is the real treasure. Sir Henry Hobart builds the present house from 1616 for a chief justice's money. The ground underneath had a Boleyn house. Whether Anne was born on this soil or at Hever is a fight the guidebooks enjoy and the parish registers do not settle. Her father Thomas held the older property. She dies in London on 19 May 1536. That date is the one the gate still circles.
Talk gives Anne in the rooms with her head under her arm, a coach on the anniversary with a headless driver and headless horses, and sometimes Sir John Fastolf, who actually had a life on this land before the Tudors made it a brand. The National Trust takes the house in 1942. They will sell the Boleyn sentence. They will not open a grave. Staff have given pipes, visitors, and old timber as the other explanation for as long as they have given the queen.
A Trust house on older ground. A scaffold that stayed in London. A card that will not let it stay there.
Anne walking with her head under her arm.
2. Date of Incident
Older Boleyn house medieval. Present hall 1616 onward. Execution 19 May 1536 as the anniversary. Trust from 1942.
3. Location
Blickling, Norfolk. Approximate 52°49 N 001°14 E.
4. Official Narrative
National Trust historic house. Official narrative is Hobart brick and a library. Boleyn talk is interpretation. Birthplace is not certified here.
5. Witness Layer
Trust staff and visitors. No Tudor witness this folder can put in the gallery. Fastolf as a name that belongs to the ground more honestly than a walking head.
A coach with a headless driver on the anniversary.
Whether Anne was born on this soil or at Hever is a fight the guidebooks enjoy.
6. Recovery Logistics
The house. Trust inventories. No remains tagged Anne on this ground. No coach hardware.
7. Assessment
Blickling is a Jacobean house standing on a useful surname. That is allowed. A head under an arm is a woodcut. Keep 19 May as the date the tours circle. Keep Hever in the same breath as Blickling so the birthplace does not get laundered into a fact. Fastolf is the name that actually ate and slept here without needing a scaffold.
This folder files the hall as a hall and the queen as the hook that pays for the heating. If a member of staff has heard a coach, that can sit in a notebook. It does not move Tower Green to Norfolk.
8. Materials & Remains
Hall. Library. Trust script. No opened grave.
9. Key Personnel
Thomas Boleyn / Anne Boleyn : The older name and the card.
Sir Henry Hobart : The present brick.
National Trust : From 1942.
10. Aftermath
The gallery still takes a line. 19 May still sells a night. Hever still has its own ticket. Norfolk still has a house.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: Norfolk hall. Boleyn on the card. No grave here.
Confidence: High that Hobart built this hall and that the Trust uses the Boleyn story. Low that Anne was born in the present rooms. Low that a coach is more than talk.
Filing note
A chief justice's brick on a Boleyn field, a birthplace two houses fight over, a queen who died in London, a gallery that borrowed her, an anniversary the gate will not skip.
They will not open a grave for it. The only honest sentence in the gift shop.
