1. Public Record

4 August 1990, evening, mist on the Perthshire moors above Calvine. Two men, chefs at Fisher's Hotel in Pitlochry, were walking when a large diamond-shaped object hung in the sky, silent, no plume, no obvious propulsion. They went to ground behind trees. A Harrier came down the valley, left, came back and circled the diamond as if inspecting it. One of the men shot a short sequence of colour photographs. The diamond then went up and was gone.

They took six prints to the Daily Record in Glasgow. Picture editor Andy Allen sent the best frame to Craig Lindsay, RAF press officer at Pitreavie Castle. Lindsay had not seen a UFO photograph that clean. He passed it to the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry asked for the other prints and the negatives. The Record sent them. They did not come back. The paper never ran the story. The walkers never became public names. One print was marked Kevin Russell. That name has not been stood up.

In 2021 researcher David Clarke reached Lindsay. Lindsay said he had been waiting thirty years for the call. He had kept a copy in an album. In 2022 that print became public. Analysis since has treated it as a genuine copy of the image the Ministry took in, likely a black-and-white lab print from the Record's copy negative. JARIC had seen Vu-Foils. What the Ministry did with the originals remains the hole in the file.

2. Date of Incident

4 August 1990, about 21:00. Prints to the Record later that month. MoD by 10 September. Public reappearance of Lindsay's copy in 2022.

3. Location

Hillside near Calvine, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Approximate 56°46 N 003°45 W.

4. Official Narrative

MoD received a photograph and did not release a satisfactory public close. Official narrative is an image taken in. The 2022 print is why the page is not only a rumour of a rumour.

5. Witness Layer

Two unnamed walkers, chefs from Pitlochry. One camera. A Harrier crew who have not been publicly identified as confirming the pass. Andy Allen at the Record. Craig Lindsay. David Clarke as the man who found the album.

I've been waiting for someone to call me about this for 30 years.

Craig Lindsay to David Clarke, 2021

6. Recovery Logistics

A surviving print. No recovered craft. No camera body in a public locker. Negatives last seen going south.

7. Assessment

A Scottish image file that the state took in and sat on. That is the logistics. Whether the diamond is a craft or a later argument about the negative is secondary to the chain: walkers, Record, RAF press desk, MoD, silence, an album thirty years later. Keep the Harrier in the frame. It is why the picture is not only a kite. Keep the walkers unnamed. They have not stood up, and the file should not invent them.

8. Materials & Remains

The 2022 Lindsay print and the MoD correspondence around the original.

9. Key Personnel

Two unnamed walkers : Camera. Chefs at Fisher's Hotel.

Andy Allen : Daily Record picture editor.

Craig Lindsay : RAF press officer. The album.

MoD UFO desk / JARIC : Took the negatives in.

10. Aftermath

The walkers never became a tour. The photograph did, once it escaped the album. Calvine is now a named image. The originals are still not on a public table.

11. Current Archive Status

Status: Colour sequence of a diamond and a Harrier, Calvine, 4 August 1990. Originals to MoD. Copy public 2022.

Confidence: High that prints reached the Record and the Ministry. High that Lindsay's copy is of that image. Low that a craft was recovered in Perthshire. Low that the walkers will now give a public statement.

Filing note

Two chefs, a hillside, a diamond that did not move, a Harrier that did, six colour frames, a newspaper that did not print them, a ministry, a long quiet, an album. No names on the walkers. No wreck on the hill.

The original did not come back from Whitehall. Not the shape in the sky. A print that entered a building and stayed.
