1. Public Record

Broad Haven, Pembrokeshire, 4 February 1977. Lunch at Broad Haven Primary. Children on the field side of the school see a silver object come down in the next field. Fifteen of them, in the usual count, draw it afterward. The sketches agree on a disc or cigar with a dome more than playground paper usually agrees. Head teacher David Davies keeps the drawings instead of binning them as a dare. That decision is why the lunch is still on a shelf.

The weeks after pull in the adults. Ripperston Farm and the Coombs household: lights, a figure in a silver suit at a window, cattle off their pattern, a car that will not fire when it should. Rosa Granville at the Haven Fort Hotel has her own night. Hilton Farm and the rocks off the Haven pick up the same spring. Granada and the BBC arrive. The papers invent the Welsh Triangle. The Ministry of Defence line is thin. 1977 is a flap year in Britain. This corner of it has a schoolyard, which is why it outlived the others.

A lunch hour. A stack of pencil. Farms that did not sleep. A coast that learned a nickname.

The drawings agree more than playground drawings should.

On the 4 February lunch

2. Date of Incident

4 February 1977 at the school. Cluster through February and March on the Haven and at Ripperston.

3. Location

Broad Haven and Ripperston, Pembrokeshire. Approximate 51°47 N 005°06 W.

4. Official Narrative

MoD interest without a public identification. Official narrative is lights and local excitement. It does not, in any paper this folder trusts, close the children's drawings as a prank.

5. Witness Layer

Broad Haven pupils. David Davies. Coombs household. Rosa Granville. Other Haven adults. Camera crews.

A figure in a silver suit at a window, cattle off their pattern, a car that will not fire.

On Ripperston after the lunch

Head teacher David Davies keeps the drawings instead of binning them as a dare.

On why the lunch survived

6. Recovery Logistics

School drawings. Press tape. Farm statements. No object from the field beside the school.

7. Assessment

Start with the lunch. A head who keeps fifteen similar sketches is doing his job, not founding a church. Ripperston is the adult weather that moved in after: suit, cattle, a dead ignition. That may be the same event wearing farm clothes. It may be a coast talking to itself once the cameras arrived. Both can be written. Neither should eat the drawings.

This folder will not flatten the children to sell a triangle. It will not flatten the Coombs nights to save a ministry line. A Pembrokeshire field, a stack of pencil, a spring that would not quiet. That is the page.

8. Materials & Remains

School drawings. Press. Farm statements. No hardware.

9. Key Personnel

Broad Haven pupils / David Davies : The lunch.

Coombs household, Ripperston : The nights after.

Rosa Granville : The hotel night.

10. Aftermath

The Welsh Triangle stays a paperback title. The school stays a school. The field stays a field. The drawings still photograph better than the nickname.

11. Current Archive Status

Status: Feb 1977. School drawings. Haven nights. No object.

Confidence: High that the children drew a similar object after the same lunch and that Davies kept the paper. Low that the silver-suit nights are typed. Low that MoD closed it.

Filing note

A Pembrokeshire lunch, a field beside a primary school, fifteen sketches that agreed, a head who kept them, a farm window with a silver suit, a car that would not fire, a nickname the papers liked more than the county did.

The drawings agree more than playground drawings should. That is why the lunch is still on the shelf.
