1. Public Record
Honey Island Swamp, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. Harlan Ford, retired controller turned camp man, with Billy Mills. 1963 as the first look, 1974 as the year he spoke: tracks at a watering hole, a boar with its throat opened, a figure he first took for bear until it turned. About seven feet, grey hair, amber eyes, a face too human. Four-toed casts, webbed in the telling, which is the wrong count for an ape. After Ford died in 1980 a Super 8 reel turned up in his things. In Search Of put him on camera while he still lived. Dana Holyfield, his granddaughter, keeps the story and the casts moving through the parish.
Tour boats now sell the name. Fact or Faked later dressed a man in a ghillie and matched the grain of the film well enough to leave the question open. Four toes remain the part a bear does not give you for free.
I thought it might be a bear, and then it turned around.
2. Date of Incident

3. Location
Honey Island Swamp, Louisiana. Approximate 30°15 N 089°42 W.
4. Official Narrative
No capture. Official narrative is a local hunter and later tourism. Wildlife desks did not sign a species.
5. Witness Layer
Ford. Mills. Holyfield as keeper. Later tourmen with copies of the cast.
It wasn't a bear. It wasn't like any man I've seen.
6. Recovery Logistics
Plaster. Super 8. No hide.
7. Assessment
A swamp-and-cast file. Keep Ford's turn as the sentence. Keep four toes as the problem for a clean primate. A granddaughter with casts is not a laboratory. Do not let the tour boat write the 1963 morning.
8. Materials & Remains
Casts in parish hands. Ford's reel. No specimen.
9. Key Personnel
Harlan Ford : The look and the film.
Billy Mills : The other set of eyes.
Dana Holyfield : The casts after.
10. Aftermath
Abita Mystery House keeps a copy. The swamp still takes money for the name.
11. Current Archive Status
Status: Ford sighting and casts, 1960s-74. Super 8 after 1980. No specimen.
Confidence: High that Ford reported a figure and lifted four-toed casts. Moderate that the reel is his. Low that a hominid was taken. Low that four toes close the file as a known ape.
Filing note
A retired controller, a camp in the Pearl, a shape that was not a bear once it turned, a dead boar, plaster with the wrong number of toes, a reel found after he was gone. The granddaughter still hands out copies.
Then it turned around. Three words that take the easy animal off the table and do not put another one on it.
